2016/01/12

On 8 January 2016, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong was invited to deliver a lecture for the delegates participating in the 7th Session of Ghana International Model UN (GIMUN) conference. Around 200 young delegates from 12 African countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Liberia and Somalia attended the lecture.

Starting from the requirements on Chinese diplomats set by late Premier Zhou Enlai- “Unswerving loyalty, mastery of policies, professional competency and observance of discipline”, the core values of Chinese diplomats featured by “loyalty, responsibility and devotion”, and the stories of excellent Chinese diplomats in history, Ambassador Sun said that an excellent diplomat should be loyal to his or her motherland and put its interests first; be diligent in learning, and grasp the conditions of the mother country, resident country and the world; be good at communicating, and seek common grounds while shelving differences as well as strengthen mutual trust; be ready to make sacrifice and serve the broad interests of the overall diplomatic work and national development.

Ambassador Sun said that the bitter experience of China in modern history speaks for “Weak countries have no diplomacy to speak of”, “Lagging behind leaves one vulnerable to attacks”. Nowadays, China is committed to shaping the context in which these two idioms take effect- the unjust and irrational international and political order, and building a new type of international relations underpinned by win-win cooperation. The Chinese side is committed to making China-Africa relations a model in building that new type of international relations. Ambassador Sun briefed the content and great significance of the Johannesburg Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and encouraged the young delegates to study hard, realize their dreams in early time and contribute their share to their motherlands, Africa and mankind at large.

Ambassador Sun’s speech has won several rounds of warm applause from the young delegates. Ambassador Sun also answered questions of the delegates covering China’s foreign policy, China-Africa relations, youth development, etc.
