On 4th January, 2018, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana Mr. Jiang Zhouteng was invited to attend and address the opening plenary session of the Ghana International Model United Nations (GIMUN) 2018. More than 300 delegates and special guests attended the event including Members of the Parliament, Ghanaian traditional leaders, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, diplomats from Sudanese and Colombian Embassies in Ghana, and young delegates from eighty universities and high schools. The theme for the conference is “Transformation through Empowerment”, and youth development is one of the key topics.
Mr. Jiang said that the youth hold the key to social and economic progress. “Investing in the youth” is a major part of socio-economic transformation of one country. “Where do the youth go” will have significant impact on the transformation and development of the human society.
Mr. Jiang pointed out that China attaches great importance to the youth development and vigorously provides the stage for the youth to display their talents. The efforts made by the youth to realize their personal dreams converge with the mighty force of China’s national reform and development strategies, which have made great contributions to realizing the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation. Youth have always played a vital role in the history of China-Africa relations. The China-Africa youth cooperation is promising and the youth of both sides will play a more significant role in China-Africa cooperation in the years to come.
Mr. Jiang urged young delegates to seize the pulse of the time, uphold the lofty ideals, and establish the noble goal, integrate self-improvement into the development of the country and the happiness of the people, and realize the personal value of life in the process of actively participating in the cause of national revitalization and human progress.
