On October 30, 2017, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Madam Sun Baohong, attended the ‘Wulin Hanyun’ performance tour at the Ghana National Theater and delivered a speech. Chief Director and Representative for the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Arts, Honorable Dr. Joel Sonne, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Honorable Ishmael Ashitey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Frank Quist, Chief Director of the Ministry Health, Mrs. Afisah Zakariah as well as an audience of nearly 1,200 people watched the performance.
Ambassador Sun pointed out that Kung Fu is a philosophy, the purpose of learning Kung Fu is to safeguard social fairness and justice. Kung Fu is a spirit, learning Kung Fu not only strengthens one’s physical fitness, but also improves one's internal traits and external behavior. Kung Fu is a culture life, it has become the favorite way of fitness for Chinese people and a beautiful name card for cultural exchanges between China and other countries. Ambassador Sun said that China-Ghana cultural exchanges and cooperation are becoming increasingly close in recent years. China will strengthen solidarity and cooperation with other developing countries including Ghana guided by the principle of upholding justice while pursuing shared interests and the principle of sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith.
Dr. Joel Sonne, Chief Director and Representative of Minister of Tourism, Culture and Arts, expressed his warm welcome to the Wulin Hanyun performance troupe for visiting Ghana. He said that, as the relationship between Ghana and China deepens, cultural exchanges between the two countries develop rapidly, playing an important role in the economic and social development of Ghana. The Ghanaian side appreciates the strong support of the Chinese government and the Chinese people for the development of cultural undertakings in Ghana. Ghana is willing to continue to deepen cultural exchanges and cooperation with China.
The "Wulin Hanyun" performance tour, sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters-Hanban of China and the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, and co-hosted by the Education Department of Henan Province and the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, tells an interesting story of a Shaolin Kung Fu kid learning the arts and crafts through Kung Fu, Tai Chi, dance and Chinese folk music, which vividly shows the charm of traditional Chinese Kung Fu culture. The audience participated enthusiastically in experiencing pictographic boxing, Tai Chi and other Chinese Kung Fu performances. The performance was overwhelmed by warm and joyful atmosphere and was brought to an end in the melodious singing of Auld Lang Syne and the lasting applauses from the audience.
