Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong Attended the Inauguration of the China-Africa Desk at GNA

    On 17 March 2016, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong attended the inauguration of the China-Africa Desk at Ghana News Agency(GNA) and delivered a speech. General Manager of GNA Mr. Bernard Otabil, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ghana Journalists Association, Ghana-China Friendship Association, business sector and Diplomatic Corps, totally more than 50 persons attended the event. Journalists from Ghana TV, TV3, GHONE-TV and GNA, Xinhua News Agency covered the function on site.

    In her speech, Ambassador Sun said that the establishment of the China-Africa Desk at GNA will facilitate the mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and Ghanaian people as well as clear up cognitive bias raised by different knowledge background and views. She called on the China-Africa Desk to tell good stories in China-Ghana and China-Africa relations and exhibit a comprehensive and objective image of China to Ghanaian people.

    Ambassador Sun briefed the outcome of the just concluded 12th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and National People's Congress and the supply side reform be implemented by Chinese government, shared the Story of China with Michael Wood broadcast on BBC Two and told the audiences the legend of Mr. Wang Chuanyao, the first Chinese coach to Ghana as well as to Africa. In order to help Ghanaian people better understand China’s development, form objective perception of China as well as promote China-Ghana friendship, she encouraged the media workers to spread positive energy, enhance mutual understanding of the two peoples as well as discover and tell more good stories in the China-Ghana friendly relations.

    In his speech, Mr. Otabil spoke highly of the long lasting friendship and cordial relations between Ghana and China, promised to uphold the principles of “objective, fair and faithful” to provide news resources for the Ghanaian and African medias, tell the success story of China to Ghanaian people and play a more important role in enhancing economic and trade cooperation as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges between Ghana and China.

    Then accompanied by Mr. Otabil, Ambassador Sun cut the ribbon for the China-Africa Desk, inspected the working environment of GNA, and interviewed by the journalists. A passionate and untrammeled Ghanaian dance was performed, which created joyous atmosphere together with the red Chinese knots decorated on site.
