Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Shi Ting Wang Visits the Headquarter of Ghanaian Times
2019/07/13

On May 29, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Shi Ting Wang visited the headquarter of Ghanaian Times, a mainstream media in Ghana and held talks with Editor-in-chief David Agbenu. The two sides exchanged views on China-Ghana relations and China-US trade frictions and other issues. News editor of Ghanaian Times Matthew was present at the meeting.

Ambassador Wang said that China-Ghana friendship has a long history. Ghana’s founding President Dr. Nkrumah forged profound friendship with Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and other old Chinese leaders. Last year, H.E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo paid a state visit to China and attended the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and achieved important outcomes. China-Ghana relations entered a new era. China is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Ghanaian media and hopes that Ghanaian media can report on China, China-Ghana, China-Africa friendship and cooperation in an objective and fair way so as to continuously enhance mutual understanding between people of the two sides, and consolidate the basis of China-Ghana and China-Africa friendship.

Mr. Agbenu said that Ghanaian Times, founded by the founding President Nkrumah, has maintained long-term cooperation with Chinese media and actively promoted the coverage of China-related news. Last year, Ghanaian Times reported President Akufo-Addo’s visit to China. In the future, Ghanaian Times will continue to follow up the outcomes of China-Ghana pragmatic cooperation and introduce a true, comprehensive and objective China to the Ghanaian people.

Ambassador Wang also introduced China’s principled position on China-US trade friction. Ambassador Wang pointed out that in an era of deepening globalization, trade war is is nobody’s interests. The so-called claims that “the United States is suffering losses” and “China’s compulsory technology transfer” are imposed to China and totally groundless. China is committed to solving the China-US economic and trade frictions in an earnest manner. But the US has waved the stick of rade barriers and exerted extreme pressure to China, and then used administrative power to prohibit US companies from cooperating with Chinese companies such as Huawei. Under these circumstances, China does not want a trade war, but is not afraid of one, and have to fight one when necessary.

Ambassador Wang emphasized that protectionism is the common enemy to the international community. The United States initiated a trade war against the trend of the world. China has always believed that only cooperation is in the common interests of China and the United States. Adding tariffs and unilateral measures can not solve any problems, and will ultimately harm the interests of the people and enterprises of China and the United States. Maintaining sound and stable economic and trade relations between China and the United States is not only conducive to the development of both countries, but also helps promote a sustained and healthy development of the world economy. Every responsible country should not harm the interests of other countries for the sake of “national priority.” China is willing to continue to promote the stable and healthy development of China-US economic and trade relations in the spirit of cooperation and responsibility.

Mr. Agbenu thanked Ambassador Wang for his introduction and said it had very important bearing for Ghanaian media to deepen its understanding of the ins and outs of China-US trade frictions.
