2019/01/05

On November 28, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Shi Ting Wang went to the hometown of the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo in Kyebi of the Eastern Region and met with the Paramount Chief of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin. The two sides exchanged views on China-Ghana relations and other related issues.

Ambassador Wang said that he was very glad to visit the outstanding Eastern Region, a land of outstanding people and picturesque scenery. Many Ghanaian celebrities, including President Akufo-Addo, went out from here to Africa as well as to the rest of the world. In September this year, President Akufo-Addo paid a state visit to China and attended the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). This visit achieved important outcomes and the China-Ghana relations has entered a new era. Ambassador Wang said that traditional leaders play an irreplaceable role in the economic and social development of Ghana. He hopes that traditional leaders in the Kyebi area will seize the important opportunities of China-Ghana cooperation and contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

The Paramount Chief, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin thanked Ambassador Wang for coming all the way to visit him and said that he accompanied President Akufo-Addo during his visit to China in September this year. He was deeply impressed by the awesome Forbidden City, the magnificent Great Wall, the advanced high-speed train, the world-class ICT companies. Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin said that the tremendous achievements China has made in recent decades should be attributed to the strong leadership of the Chinese government, the wisdom and hard work of the Chinese people and China’s glorious history and civilization of 5000 years. Ghanaians from all walks of life, including traditional leaders should actively "look to the east" to learn from China's advanced development concepts with a view to achieve industrialization and economic transformation and get rid of poverty once and for all.
