Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Madam Sun Baohong Attended the 2017 Global Confucius Institute Day Celebration

On the 30th of September, 2017, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H. E. Madam Sun Baohong attended the 2017 Global Confucius Day Celebration and delivered a speech at the invitation of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana. Nearly 200 people were present at the event including Registrar of the University of Ghana, Mrs. Mercy Ashia, President of the Ghana-China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA), H.E. Ambassador Kojo Amoo-Gottfried, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute in the University of Ghana, Dr. Mei Meilian, Ghanaian Director of the Institute, Dr. Josephine Dzahene Quarshie, President of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, Mr. Tang Hong, Chairman of the Ghana Wenzhou Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Li Chaodong as well as students of the Confucius Institute and the University of Ghana Primary School.

Ambassador Sun, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, extended her warm congratulations on the 2017 Global Confucius Day. She also thanked people from all walks of life in Ghana who have lent their support to the Confucius Institute and extended her warm greetings to the teachers, volunteers and staff. Ambassador Sun said that, since its establishment four years ago, the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana has made gratifying achievements in Chinese teaching and the dissemination of Chinese culture. The Institute has become the leader of Chinese teaching in Ghana, the pioneer in Ghana-China educational cooperation and the disseminator of Chinese culture. She also hoped that the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana would unceasingly develop and bring forth new ideas to further improve the quality of the teaching and cultivate more and more outstanding talents. In addition, Ambassador Sun hoped that all students present at the ceremony would study studiously, care and support the China-Ghana friendship and become the ambassadors for the China-Ghana friendship of the time.

Registrar of the University of Ghana, Mrs. Mercy Ashia warmly congratulated the 2017 Global Confucius Day in her address. She highly affirmed the achievements made by the Confucius Institute and gratefully thanked the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese community in Ghana for their tremendous support and selfless help to the Confucius Institute and Chinese teaching of the University of Ghana. She was confident that under the joint efforts by the Chinese teachers, volunteers and the Ghanaian staff, the Confucius Institute would achieve greater development in the future.

At the scene of the event, Ambassador Sun enjoyed calligraphy, paper cutting, tea making, martial arts, Peking Opera painting and other traditional Chinese arts with other guests. Ambassador Sun, in the interview with TV Africa, introduced the establishment of the Confucius Institutes in Ghana and the outcomes of China-Ghana cooperation in the sector of education. Students from the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana performed colorful artistic programs including martial arts, cross-talk, fan dancing, cucurbit flute (also known as Hulusi in China) and Chinese song chorus. The celebration ended with a chorus of children “tomorrow will be better”, indicating the Confucius Institute and the cultural exchanges between China and Ghana will have a more brilliant future.
