(18th May, 2016)
Honorable Cletus Avoka, Board Chairman and Member of Parliament,
Respected Mr. Sarpong, Controller of Ghana Immigration Service,
Respected Mr. Zheng Shengli, President of Chinese Traders Chamber of Commerce,
My fellow compatriots,
Friends from the media,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am very pleased to participate in the hand-over ceremony of 20 computers donated by Chinese Traders Chamber of Commerce to Ghana Immigration Service. First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, I would like to express our appreciation to Chinese Traders Chamber of Commerce for this generous gesture, which aims not only at elevating capacity-building of Ghana Immigration Service, but also at building a harmonious relationship between the Chinese community and Ghana Immigration Service.
Chinese Traders Chamber of Commerce was set up two years ago under the guidance of the Chinese Embassy. Since then the organization has spared no efforts in shouldering social responsibilities, seeking deep integration into the mainstream society of Ghana and carrying out projects for the livelihood of local people. Last year, the Chinese Traders Chamber of Commerce donated teaching equipment and articles for students of Tampion E/A Primary School in Tamale.
China and Ghana enjoy profound traditional friendship. In recent years, the two countries have registered remarkable achievements in economic and trade cooperation. More and more Chinese people come to live and invest in Ghana. They conduct mutual beneficial cooperation, engage in technology transfer, create numerous job opportunities and make tremendous contributions for the long-term development of the country.
Chinese government practices rule by law. We have always asked the overseas Chinese to abide by the laws and regulations of the host country, to operate business with credibility, to uphold justice and pursue shared interests, to get along well with the local people and to feed back the society in an earnest manner. Chinese government is resolute in protecting legitimate interests of Chinese nationals, but we will not tolerate or cover some individuals’ mistakes.
Chinese government also hopes that the Ghanaian government will constantly improve the environment for Chinese business people. In this regard, Ghana Immigration Service has a major role to play.
By improving the services Ghana Immigration Service can ensure the healthy and smooth exchange of peoples of two countries.
By elevating the morality and discipline Ghana Immigration Service will promote the image of Ghana and attract more and more people that will contribute to the country’s economic prosperity. Just as Honorable Board Chairman said, immigration is the face of the country.
The Chinese Embassy and Ghana Immigration Service have forged good working relations and in recent years bilateral cooperation in the field of law enforcement has been enhanced. We would like to thank Ghana Immigration Service for providing timely assistance to Chinese nationals in emergent cases and close collaboration in repatriating fugitives and fighting against transnational organized crimes. I hope that both sides will continue to promote cooperation in those fields. Specifically we need to prevent the black sheep on both sides to do unlawful things to damage our relations.
China will continue to offer support in terms of equipment and personnel training within its capacity to the Immigration Service and relevant authorities.
