Remarks by Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong at the Grand Opening of Huawei New Ghana Office
2016/05/12

(May 11th , 2016)

Your Excellency Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana,

Respected Mr. Guo Ping, Deputy Chairman and Rotating Global CEO of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd,

Your Honorable Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Deputy Minister of Communications,

Respected Mr. Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie, Board Chairman of the National Communications Authority,

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning!

I am very delighted to be part of this Grand Opening of Huawei New Ghana Office. First, let me extend my warm congratulations to Huawai Ghana for moving into this new office. It shows your determination to make Ghana one of your major business hubs on the African continent. I also want to express my sincere appreciation to H.E. Vice President. For years you have rendered great support to Chinese business community in Ghana.

Huawei is a world Top 500 company. In China there are numerous legends associated with its nearly 30-years development, that is, how it has established itself as the global leader in the era of ICT. This morning I got up early to try to find more information about this company on internet. And just by one search I got over 100 million results. I also found out that hundreds of thousands of people have written their understanding of Huawei’s multi-faceted enterprise culture. The Chairman of Huawei is a motivational speaker in China, from whom people of different ages seek inspiration. And H.E. Mr. Yu Zhengsheng, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, who paid an official goodwill visit to Ghana last month, said he once heard of several stories of ordinary Huawei employees and was very touched by their traits specially cultivated by Huawei.

So Huawei is one of my favorite Chinese companies. People of Huawei have made tremendous contributions to the development of telecommunication and ICT in this country. I admire Huawei people’s craftsman spirit, hardworking attitude, win-win cooperation concept, emphasis on innovation, and high sense of mission. Since my arrival in Accra two years ago, I have also participated in several social responsibility work conducted by Huawei Ghana.

Let me emphasize that Huawei is just one of the many Chinese enterprises that have made remarkable contributions to Ghana’s economic development, social progress and improvement of people’s livelihood. The Chinese enterprises carry out extensive and mutual beneficial cooperation with Ghana, employ a great number of local people, embark on technology transfer and human resources development, and feed back the society in an earnest way. That is one of the major reasons why China-Ghana economic and trade cooperation keeps good momentum despite some unfavorable factors. Last year both the bilateral trade between China and Ghana and China’s FDI to Ghana ranked 6th among China African cooperation. Projects aided, invested, or financed by China involve important fields of Ghana’s national welfare and people’s well-being. The latest example is Cape Coast Sports Stadium, a Chinese government aid project and I think no one will easily forget that memorable day of commissioning and the friendship football match.

Chinese President Xi Jinping says China and Africa share common destiny. China will uphold justice and pursue shared interests and incorporate innovation, coordination, green development, openness and inclusiveness, the 5-point concept of development in our work on Africa. I am happy to see that over all these years the integration of interests between China and Africa as well as between China and Ghana has reached new high. But we need to do more to elevate our relations to comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership and fulfill the Ten Major Cooperation Plans adopted the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation. We hope the Ghanaian government will make constant efforts to improve the business environment and provide facilities to Chinese enterprises operating in Ghana.

By conclusion I wish Huawei Ghana a more brilliant future! I wish the people of Ghana and the people of China continue to enjoy political stability and economic prosperity!

Thank you.
