Remarks by Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Sun Baohong at the Establishment Ceremony of the Upper East Regional Chapter of Ghana-China Friendship Association
Hon. James Zoogah Tiigah, the Upper East Regional Minister,
Your Excellency Amb. Kojo Amoo-Gottfried, President of Ghana China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA),
Mr. Danny Mawuenyega, Secretary-General of GHACHIFA,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good afternoon! First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, I would like to express my sincere congratulation on the establishment of the Upper East Regional Chapter of GHACHIFA, and extend my heartfelt gratitude for your great endeavor to develop China-Ghana friendship.
Since I assumed office in April 2014, GHACHIFA has continued to grow vigorously and established regional chapters in the Ashanti Region, Northern Region, Upper West Region and Upper East region. As a result, a large number of people from all walks of life in Ghana join GHACHIFA, closely interact with Chinese Embassy and are committed to promoting traditional friendship and cooperation in various fields between our two countries and offering their valuable advice and suggestions. Last year, GHACHIFA played a very active role in facilitating China-Ghana Economic and Trade Forum in Kumasi, co-organizing the Basketball and Table Tennis Friendship Games, carrying out the Chinese-Aided ICT lab projects, and making preparation for a few donations for local communities. Ghanaian friends always say, "Without money, nothing can be done". But I would like to say, without your hard working, nothing can be done so well. Please applaud yourself!
The year of 2015 has witnessed the sound development of China-Ghana relations and fruitful cooperation on economy and trade between two countries. In the first three quarters of 2015, China-Ghana trade volume hit USD 5.01 billion, an increase of 27.9% over the same period of the previous year. The whole year trade volume is estimated to exceed USD 6 billion, a new historical record. The value of China's newly-signed engineering contracts in Ghana and China's investment inflows to Ghana rank high in that of Africa. When you read newspapers, you will find that a number of Ghanaian manufacturing enterprises introduced in Chinese technology and advanced equipment to improve their manufacturing capacity. I consider this phenomenon as a new trend in China-Ghana cooperation on industrial capacity cooperation, which has great potential for further development. The Chinese Embassy in Ghana held a series of activities, such as Chinese Film Festival, China-Ghana Friendship Sports Games, China-Ghana Economic and Trade Forum, Acrobatic Show at the National Theatre, to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-Ghana diplomatic relations. Our cooperation on education, health and people-to-people exchanges have maintained the strong momentum.
Last month, the Johannesburg Summit of FOCAC was held successfully in South Africa. China-Africa relations were upgraded to a comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership with the contents of "five major pillars" and "ten major cooperation plans". China commits itself to providing a total of USD 60 billion dollars funding support to ensure the successful implementation of these ten cooperation plans, which will definitely bring African countries more developing opportunities. H.E. President John Dramani Mahama held a successful meeting with his counterpart Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sideline of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit and reached broad consensus on stepping up cooperation in various fields, which outlined the new direction for the development of China-Ghana relations and future cooperation. The Chinese Embassy is ready to work with the Ghanaian government and people on implementation of the follow-up actions of FOCAC.
The grand undertaking of China-Ghana friendship needs people's devotion. I wish the new members of GHACHIFA would understand the importance of China Ghana relations and be committed to further promoting the traditional friendly relations between our two countries.
Once again congratulations on the ever-expanding GHACHIFA. We look forward to working with you in this new year.
